Daria and the other session tools
Thirteen tools now record your table and write the recap, and most of them describe themselves in nearly the same sentence. These pages are our attempt to say what each one is actually built around — and where Daria genuinely differs.
See everything Daria does →We build one of these tools, so treat this the way you would treat any comparison written by a competitor: as a starting point, not a verdict. What we can promise is the method. Everything we assert about another tool comes from that tool’s own site, carries the date we checked it, and is written as what it does rather than what it lacks.
Two things are deliberately missing. We quote no prices, because this market reprices in days and a stale number on our site is us telling you something false about somebody else’s product — every page links straight to the tool’s own pricing instead. And we make no claim to be the only tool that does anything, because there are more than thirteen of these and the set changes monthly.
Daria herself is in closed beta and cannot be installed today. If your campaign needs something before the next session, several of the tools below are excellent and available right now, and each page says which one we would point you at.
What actually separates these tools
- Where it can hear youThe first question, and the one that eliminates most options. Nearly all of these are Discord bots, which is perfect until your table meets in a living room. If you play in person — or half-and-half — you need a tool that records a room through one microphone and can pull the voices apart afterwards, or one that accepts a file you recorded yourself. Several here do neither.
- Whether an answer can be checkedEvery tool will answer “who was the innkeeper in Session 4?”. The ones worth trusting tell you which session and which moment the answer came from, so you can go and look. Without that you have a confident paragraph about your campaign and no way to know whether it happened. It is the difference between a record and a story about a record.
- Who the transcript thinks is talkingA transcript labelled with Discord usernames is a different artifact from one labelled with character names, and the gap shows up in every recap built on top of it. Ask whether a tool learns your party — and whether it knows your invented names before it starts transcribing, or only tries to spell them afterwards.
- Where the notes end upSome of these keep your campaign inside their own app, some let you export the transcript, some can be queried by other software you already use. If you have a wiki, a note vault or an AI assistant you live in, the question is not what the tool’s interface looks like — it is whether your campaign can leave it.
- What it does when the AI is wrongIt will be, eventually — a name misheard, a plot thread misread. Ask what correcting it costs: whether the fix sticks for future sessions or has to be made again every time, and whether anyone besides the GM is allowed to make it.
The thirteen, compared one by one
- CraigCompare →The Discord recording bot, and deliberately nothing more — it does not try to summarize anything. Daria imports from it rather than competing with it.
- Goblin ScribeCompare →Discord-native and end-to-end — records, recaps, paints scene art, and stages discovered NPCs and quests for your approval before they enter the wiki.
- The DM’s ARKCompare →Transcribes a Discord session in real time into a web app, builds a campaign compendium, and answers questions from your transcript history.
- Crit ScribblerCompare →A Discord AI note taker with downloadable transcripts, funny-quote extraction and character images. Daria can import its transcript exports.
- Archivist AICompare →Takes Discord, uploads or plain notes, in 35+ languages — and it matches Daria on both a Foundry module and an MCP connector.
- CharGenCompare →A whole Discord toolkit — dice, initiative, NPC and shop generators — that also records and summarizes, rather than a recorder that grew features.
- Saga20Compare →Recaps built on an editorial idea: separating what your characters said from what the table said, and ending on hooks for next session.
- Tabletop ArcCompare →Upload-first rather than Discord-first, with a GM recap and a player-safe one, and every extracted fact timestamped back to the transcript.
- SessionKeeperCompare →The closest to Daria on capture: a real iOS and Android app for in-person tables, plus a Discord bot and uploads, with portraits and recap podcasts.
- KazkarCompare →Discord-only for recording, focused on narrative chronicles rather than bulleted notes, with an evolving lore wiki and a campaign dashboard.
- BardlogCompare →Per-speaker tracks, a D&D Beyond connection, and its signature feature: exporting any transcript range as a styled video clip.
- NotesBotCompare →A Discord meeting-notes bot with a D&D mode. A focus prompt tells it what your system cares about, and it shapes every recap around that.
- Recap RavenCompare →Splits the output into a player-safe recap and private GM notes, cites its receipts, and reports who actually got the spotlight.
How we checked
Each tool’s entry was written from its own website and public material on the date shown on its page. We recorded what we could confirm a tool does, and did not record absences — a feature we did not find is not a feature that does not exist, and a comparison table that blurs those two is the reason most of them are worthless. Where a page here says a tool cannot do something, that tool said so about itself. Nothing on these pages quotes anyone’s price; for that, follow the link to the source. If we have something wrong, the community server is the fastest way to tell us.

Get Pinged at LaunchWe wrote this about somebody else’s product, so we will sometimes have it wrong or out of date. If you build one of these tools and we have misdescribed it, tell us in the community server and we will fix it.
