Daria and Craig

Craig records. Daria remembers.

Craig is the tool almost every other one on this site is quietly compared against, and it is on this list under protest — because it is not really a competitor. It is the thing Daria imports from.

What Craig is

Craig joins a Discord voice channel and records every speaker onto a separate track, for up to six hours, exportable as FLAC, AAC and other modern formats. Separate tracks are the important part: you can level, cut and edit each person independently, which is why podcasts and actual-play shows have relied on it for years. It is open source, run as a donation-funded volunteer project rather than a commercial product.

What we confirmed it does

  • Records a Discord voice channel
  • Each speaker on their own track

This is what we could verify, not a complete list of what it does — anything missing here is something we did not check, not something it lacks. Its own site is the authority.

Facts about Craig checked on 2026-08-18 against its own site.

What it says about its own limits

  • Craig is a recorder: it does not transcribe, summarize or take notes.

What Craig is genuinely good at

Where Daria fits

Daria does not ask you to stop using Craig. If your table already records with it, paste the link Craig sent when the recording started and Daria collects the tracks herself — nothing to download, nothing to re-upload. She matches each recorded speaker to a character, and the session then runs the same pipeline as one she recorded: transcript, recap, scene breakdown, artwork, and a searchable place in the campaign timeline.

There is one reason to do that promptly rather than eventually: Craig deletes its own copy seven days after the recording is made. A backlog of Craig links older than a week is a backlog of sessions nobody can import any more — ours or anyone’s.

If you would rather not run two bots, Daria records Discord voice herself, on per-player tracks, with the same six-hour ceiling. The import route exists for the archive you already have, and for tables that want Craig’s files as the master copy regardless.

Which one do you need?

Use Craig if

You want audio and only audio — to edit an actual-play episode, to keep a raw archive, or because your table would rather hold the files than hand the evening to a summarizer. Craig is proven, donation-funded and does not want to be anything else. Nothing on this site improves on it at that job.

Add Daria if

Nobody wants to listen back to three hours to find the name of an innkeeper. Daria turns those recordings into a recap, a scene index and a campaign you can ask questions of — and she can start with the Craig recordings you already have, as long as they are less than a week old.

Questions about Craig and Daria

Do I have to choose between Craig and Daria?

No, and plenty of tables will not. Craig can stay your recorder while Daria does the reading and writing — you paste her the link and she takes it from there. She also records Discord voice herself if you would rather run one bot instead of two.

How old can a Craig recording be when I import it?

Under seven days. That is Craig’s own retention window, not ours — it deletes its copy after a week, and once it is gone there is nothing left for anyone to import.
